In the wake of the Virginia Tech events, the University of Delaware has proposed a solution to the lack of communication witch exacerbated the tragedy a few weeks ago.
Sending out a mass text message to all of the students on campus at UD would be a quick, simple and effective way to alert people if a threat to students safety arises.
Sounds like a good idea.

Matt, I agree that this is a good idea, but I also think it would be rather difficult to institute. For starters, I am not sure if the university has every students cell phone number. If not, they should take steps to do so, such as requiring it on entrance and transfer forms. I don't believe this information would be too sensitive for students to depart with at all.
Yes I agree.
It wouldn't be too sensetive, but there would have to be some policy to make everyone aware that they were signing up for it, and of course they would have the option not to.
